I was born and raised in Manhattan, where I attended the High School of Music and Art. On graduation I made my way into publishing where I edited science fiction books for Doubleday’s in New York. There I met an English literary agent who imported me to London. He disappeared rather quickly but I was falling in love with England.

At the age of 28 I decided to pull myself together and do something proper with my life. It was suggested by vocational guidance counsellor that I should become a doctor. However I love animals and I’ve always had two cats so I decided to go to Bristol Veterinary School and graduated in 1982. After 4 years in general practice (and, yes, I have been up to the shoulder in cows, sheep and pigs), I opened my own small animal practice in Bristol. It was a pleasure to be the neighbourhood vet. After that I worked in several other practices, until I ‘retired’ 5 years ago and I have been working as a part time locum vet  ever since.

I consider myself the luckiest woman alive to have a job I love so much. I do like meeting people, whatever I said above, and love medicine and animals. Also, I am lucky to have found the Corinium Veterinary Practice with such lovely workmates and such a personal ethos.

When not vetting I play the piano, knit and cross-stitch. I have given up ice-dancing in favour of scuba diving, which I do whenever I’ve saved up enough money.
